Sometimes you want a little vacation and sometimes you NEED a little vacation. Last Friday Rob and I decided we NEEDED one so we spent the weekend in Truckee. Rob has a friend with a cabin/house just off the drag in downtown Truckee. I have written about this little place before. We went this past winter and loved it. I have to say I think I love it a little more in the summer.
It doesn't take long in the plane to get to Truckee. Just a short hop and there we are ready to relax.
The room we slept in is at the back of the house and you can hear the river all night. It was so peaceful......until.....about 3am or there abouts, a very LOUD noise woke Rob. If you have been to Truckee you know a train runs through town...ummm more than once a day/night! I must say I didn't wake up at 3am but I did hear it later that morning. Still, you have to enjoy the river when you CAN hear it!
Saturday we goofed around, played in the water, relaxed and just had a great day. We packed a picnic lunch and sat under the trees in a grassy spot and relaxed and enjoyed being together. We had a nice dinner out (Rob decided it was our anniversary dinner) at the Cottonwood Inn. Rob LOVED his lamb. I tried a bite but thought it was icky. Yuk. I want to like lamb, however there is a taste that just gags me. Oh well my dinner was fab fab fab! Fish with a dill Burre-blanc sauce.(OK I can't spell burr-blanch or however you spell it BUT it was so good)! There is a candy shop in Truckee so our sweet tooth called us in. Rocky Road fudge(you can see them making the fudge in the window) and a scoop of chocolate-chip mint icecream. Satified!! We ate them seperatly by the way! I Kinda made it sound they were all together although I"m sure if we had mixed them they'd been yummy!
Sunday we went to Tahoe (the CA side) and walked ALL over. It was a beautiful day. We had a picnic lunch right on the river and watched all the people as they lazily drifted down the Truckee River on rafts. N i c e !!!! We went back to the Cabin/house (sorry but I have a hard time calling it a cabin when in fact it is a house that was built probably in the 30's or so) and sat next to the river and read and slept. When the sun started to bake us we retreated under the deck in the shade. By then a breeze started and I think it was close to a perfect afternoon!!
It was sad to have to start off for home. At least it was a short flight and not a long drive in weekend traffic. I have almost (I said almost) forgotten what vacation traffic was all about!! Love that plane!! Love that husband who built that plane!!! Loved and needed our weekend away to remember always!
Rob napping on the rivers edge.
Ahhhh....soaking my tootsies in the Truckee River....priceless.
