And We Are Off.........

It's been awhile since I have visited this blog. We have been busy with life and haven't had a chance to get in the little silver bullet and go anywhere to far or to long.
We have wanted to go to the Reno Air Races for years. Rob has always had a commitment that prevented us from going until this year. YES this year! I was extremely excited to go. It's been one of those bucket list kinda things that has sat there unfulfilled. This was the year to check it off the list. Sad to say it's not checked off.
We arrived in Carson City on Friday the day of the tragic accident. I feel blessed that our plans were to go on Saturday. It's heartbreaking to think of those who have been so damaged by this. It was an accident though. Not something you can prevent. I have been studying in the Old Testament in the book of Genesis and the story of Joseph and the "coat of many colors". Joseph had difficult and challenging experiences that when you read about them, look awful. As you continue to read though you see they turned into blessings. If you're rusty about the story start in Genesis 37.
Anyway......needless to say, we didn't make the Air Show. We had planned to camp at Johnson Creek Idaho after the Air Show so we just left one day early.
Our plan was to fly to McCall Idaho to buy food supplies for camping. We already had the other things necessary to sleep in and on, and to cook and eat with. The grocery store is literally across the street from the McCall Airport. It was great! We loaded up [OK our plane is small so LOADED UP is not the right word] but we did have what we needed for a few days camping.
We left for Johnson Creek. Good thing we are flexible because Johnson Creek isn't where we ended up! It was WAY to bouncy on our way through the canyon so my smart flying husband made the correct decision to abort THAT plan, AND I was about to hucky up due to all the turbulence. I don't usually get bothered with turbulence but this time it was all I could do to not lose it! We ended up in West Yellowstone! What a great great place. The airport FBO is WONDERFUL! Sandy was exceptional! We felt like we were special! She brought some blowup mattresses some other camper left behind. THANK YOU SANDY! We enjoyed our visit.
Rob rented a car and the next day we did all the Yellowstone sightseeing stuff. What a breathtaking state park!
On Monday morning we flew to Dillon, Montana. Rob has a friend with a real log cabin that was built I think at the turn of the century possibly before. The roof had caved in and he re-built it and later added a family room. It's about and hour and a half drive out of Dillon. 13 of those miles are gravel roads. The drive was beautiful. The cabin was great and the 3 hour or so ATV ride after we got to the cabin was one of the most fun things I have ever experienced! We drove way way back into the mountains to the continental divide.  One of the lakes we stopped to look at is called Cowbone Lake. The story as I recall goes that a cowboy was hearding some cattle and didn't realize they were walking over a frozen lake. When they walked on the ice they broke through and for years you could see the cow bones at the bottom.
We were somewhere between Montana and Idaho
